The Nevada gaming commission has unanimously voted to ban outlaw online casinos and gaming operations from the state. The decision comes amid increasing concern that such operations are not being properly regulated and may be prone to fraud and money laundering.
"The commission has a responsibility to protect Nevada's gaming industry from any potential threats, and we believe that this ban is the best way to do that," said Gaming Commission Chairman Tony Alamo.
The ban will apply to all online casinos and gaming sites that are not licensed by the state of Nevada. This includes unlicensed offshore operators as well as those operating within the United States but without a Nevada license.
It is not clear exactly how the commission plan to enforce the ban, but it is thought that they will work with law enforcement and other regulatory agencies to shut down any offending sites. violators could face criminal charges and fines.
Nevada's move follows similar actions by other states, including New Jersey and Delaware, which have also banned unlicensed online casinos from operating within their borders.
